2 months agoA great location for rock hounding! Just be aware the road to the quarry is not paved. I would not recommend going in a low vehicle and without 4 wheel drive.

8 months agoGreat adventure spot. Lots to find on the surface, even more if you dig. But please backfill the holes. Found some large holes in the main part of the quarry.

a year agoThe dirt road had deep ruts due to the recent rain. We drove a SUV, which was better than driving our sedan. We brought a bucket, hammer, knee pads to crack the larger rocks. If you don’t have tools, you’ll still be able to find bits and pieces of rock. The search is fun and kids have a great time finding the decorative rocks. There are no bathrooms nor parking lots.

a year agoA fun day activity with your friends/family, collect some really cool looking rocks, and there's plenty for everybody! We just went for our first (but certainly not last) time, and we were a bit under-prepared. There are some rocks jutting out that would yield some excellent specimens to those who have rock hammers, or some kind of pick/chisel. We didn't have anything, but we were able to still find some really cool rocks just lying around. I've heard every once in a while an excavator will come by and unearth a bit more of the quarry. So whether or not you come with tools, you should be able to find something nice to spruce up your office space or fireplace mantel. Recommendations of items to bring: - Chisel & hammer, and/or rock hammer (large), and/or medium/large pick - a bucket or two (or some kind of strong container) - gloves - safety glasses (fragments can fly when hammering!) - first aid kit - Kneepads or a cushion of some sort - PLENTY of food & water - Extra water to wash off and "prettify" your newly found treasure. They really POP when wetted (see my images for proof!) It's easy to access, the Google Maps directions are accurate. When you get there, there's a sort of flat part to the right where cars can park, you can also drive through the main quarry to the grassy part as there's a bit of space there to park, but please don't drive or park on the actual quarry with the rocks! Either straight through, or park to the side please! Last bit of advice: Sometimes you find or chisel off a chunk that may not look all that interesting at first. Before you toss it aside, get it wet first and look for branding that may have been hidden by dirt, or is just difficult to see when dry. Whether or not you spot any signs of branding, if you have a heavy tool, try to break it apart, because it could have awesome branding patterns within. Just be safe about it!
