Fat Man’s Pass is a favorite hiking area located within the Pima Canyon Trailhead in Phoenix. Known for its moderate difficulty, this trail offers a fun and engaging loop of approximately 3.8 miles with plenty of scenic views along the way. Hikers appreciate the clear signage and optional bypass routes that allow you to avoid the narrow rock squeeze if preferred.
The trail features exciting rock slides and squeezes that add a playful twist to the hike, making it a memorable experience for those seeking both challenge and natural beauty. The rewarding vistas from higher points showcase the rugged landscape of the area, providing excellent photo opportunities and a satisfying outdoor adventure. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or looking for a moderate trail with unique features, Fat Man’s Pass in Phoenix is a compelling choice.

3 weeks agoThis was a very nice fun moderate loop. Optional work around if you don't want to slide through the Fat Man's Pass. Lots of signs. 3.8 miles round trip from the Mormon Trail side.

2 weeks agoit was a long climb, and good views as you go up, but if you go all the way up, then keep going, and go right at the intersection, you can slide down some rocks, and go through a squeeze

1 year agoAs mentioned in many reviews it is a moderate difficulty level trail. I would strongly recommend doing it from the Mormon Trail side. It is ~ 2.5 miles with lots of hikers who are very friendly and helpful. Once you get to the top there are boulders so make sure you are comfortable to climb up, slide down a rock. Please bring enough water and some energy bars or snacks. Lastly if you try to get to Fat Man’s pass using Google maps , it will take you start of biking trail (desert trail, young man’s trail, midlife crisis trail etc). I would not recommend this path if this is your first time. Lastly, there is limited parking and no restrooms so please come prepared. Street parking is available.

4 weeks agoGreat trail, took us about 2 1/2 hours roundtrip to get from Mormon Trailhead to the Fat Man Rock and back. Great views and I appreciate that it wasn’t a simple walk in the park type of hike. Would definitely recommend!
