Zuyi at the front desk is very polite and friendly, Quickly getting me booked in for a massage. My massage person was Alice, I always ask for Alice. She is always very kind and gets out all of the knots after my long laborous work week. Thank you Water Lounge!! :) I'll be coming back! Update! 12/23/25 I was greeted by Kayla at the front desk with my 30 minute hot tub, it was absolutely wonderful. I was then greeted by Karen and she gave a superb massage for 60 minutes and she has 17 years of massage experience and her work shows for it. I left feeling better than ever! Thank you again Water Lounge of San Mateo! :D

Horrible Experience — Developed a Nasty Fungal Infection From Unsanitary Conditions After Spa Visit I’m writing this to warn others after an absolutely awful experience at Waterlounge Spa in San Mateo. I visited in June 2025 for what was supposed to be a relaxing hot tub session, but instead left with a severe fungal infection that has lasted over four months and caused me daily discomfort, lost sleep, and anxiety. The infection started just a few days after my visit with intense itching, burning, and redness on the bottom of my feet. I had never had these symptoms before, and I immediately realized something was wrong. After researching and later confirming that it was athlete’s foot, it became clear that I contracted it from their unsanitary facilities. It’s now been over four months, and I’m STILL dealing with this infection. Despite using multiple antifungal creams, cleaning my home and shoes constantly, and taking every precaution, it keeps returning. It’s caused me countless sleepless nights from the burning and itching, and has spread my toenails WTF . I’ve spent so much time, energy, and money trying to get rid of this fungal infection that came from the steam shower.... where fungus and spores thrive in the warm, moist, and poorly sanitized environments.... how disgusting now that I think about it. If Waterlounge Spa truly followed proper cleaning and disinfection practices, I would not be dealing with this painful infection months later. Athlete’s foot fungus thrives in warm, moist, unclean environments — exactly the kind of conditions I experienced there. Their so-called “cleaning” procedures are clearly nonexistent or completely inadequate. What’s even worse is how the owner handled my complaint. Instead of showing concern, apologizing, or investigating, Zuyi was rude, dismissive, and defensive, insisting that it wasn’t possible. Then sent me texts about how to treat it.. which I had already been doing for months. She clearly didn’t care about the serious health impact this caused. Her lack of professionalism is obvious in her Yelp responses. This has been one of the most frustrating experiences of my life — months of applying antifungal creams, disinfecting my home, throwing out shoes, socks, bath mats, and feeling isolated because I don’t want to infect anyone else. Not to mention the money I spent on creams, disinfectants, antifungal powder, socks and doctors appointments. If a business operates in an environment that promotes fungal or bacterial growth, they have an obligation to disinfect thoroughly between every customer — not just claim that they do. Based on my experience, Waterlounge Spa’s hygiene practices are virtually nonexistent, and I wouldn’t be surprised if others have been infected too but never realized where it came from. If I could go back in time, I would never have stepped foot in this spa and I strongly urge anyone considering this place to think twice. If you care about your health, safety, and peace of mind, avoid this spa at all costs.

Ooph massage mill alert. There's a reason they have you pay upfront... The workers were polite, but couldn't speak any English at all, which is mostly fine, I don't need any conversational skills, but if you are doing body work, you need to understand "slowly" "harder" "softer" etc. Basic massage words for the comfort of the people you're working on. The massage was mediocre. They used too much oil so it was like a slip & slide. Couldn't get purchase on the muscles, and couldn't get her to go harder because she couldn't understand me. The facial was a disaster. Again, mass amounts of oil. I felt like plastic cheap products were used, and could almost feel the toxins seeping into my body. They did a weird amount of light face slapping. I asked the lady "slow please" when she was messing with my face. She said something to the other lady in the room, and neither one understood, so she kept going at the same pace. I was actually wincing at the end. They also used a sharp metal tool that hurt, and they picked at my skin. I was tempted to just get up and go because it was so uncomfortable. I left $20 tip not because I felt they deserved it but because I felt bad for the women, they seemed so checked out. When I have the people at the desk the cash, the lady was like $20? For 2 workers? $10 each? I said "yep" and left. I didn't have a good time, I probably shouldn't have left one at all, and with that response from the desk, I doubt the workers saw a penny of it. Avoid massage mills. This place had sad weird vibes. :(
