Flattop Peak, located in Anchorage along the Blueberry Loop Trail, is celebrated for its incredible views and diverse trail options that accommodate a range of hiking abilities. It is one of the most popular hiking areas in the region, drawing outdoor enthusiasts eager to explore its scenic routes and breathtaking summit vistas.
The hike offers both accessible, gentle paths and more challenging routes requiring rock scrambling, making it perfect for families, experienced hikers, and those seeking a vigorous workout alike. Early morning or late evening hikes during summer are especially recommended to enjoy the remarkable landscape and avoid peak crowds.
Visitors frequently praise the spectacular panoramic views from the peak, which showcase the surrounding mountains and cityscape. The area’s natural beauty, combined with a variety of trail difficulties, makes Flattop Peak a standout destination for hiking in Anchorage.

7 months agoBeautiful views, a couple of trail options. One was very easy and accessible. One was very steep to start, very mosquito filled and long. Most people that I saw had bear repellant although we saw no bears. Several people had their dogs. The longer trail is not for the novice never hiked up a hill before types. It can be done but it will be slow and bring water.

2 years agoGreat hike to do early or later at night during the summer! It is a difficult hike so definitely take your time if you’re going up as you have to take plenty of water! I highly recommend hiking up to the peak as the views are incredible!

1 year agoWe started from Glen alps/ flattop peak trailhead. This trail took us 2h20min with some stops to take pictures. The loop part is very pretty and doable for any hiker, including kids, it's probably moderate difficulty. The part, however, that separates from the loop to go to flattop peak and back involves rock climbing. I would not recommend that part for children or those with mobility issues (joint/knee pain). Overall, a great hike. Fantastic views throughout.

2 years agoThis is a beautiful hike. Amazing view all the way up. Even for someone like myself who is out of shape, slow and steady. Don't rush. I saw a moose too.

3 years agoThis was my second favorite hike right after Portage Glacier. Didn’t see any wildlife the two times we came out here. Maybe all the dog scent along the trails keeps it that way. However, there was a notice at the trailhead saying that a moose had chased a hiker a week or so back. We went right in the middle of blueberry season and there were bushes all along the mountain before the final ascent. The weather changed often when we did this hike so layers were a good thing. At times you could see the flag at the top clearly but other times it would be shrouded by clouds. Unfortunately when I was at the summit, it was so foggy that I couldn’t really appreciate the view down.
