2 months agoThe Jewel of the Creek is a preserve with many plants and trees next to the running creek. The trail was not crowded but we had to park at the Spur Cross Ranch parking lot and walk to the trailhead. We didn't see any mammals but saw and heard several birds including Vireo, White Crowned Sparrow, Yellow Rump Warbler and Hermit Thrush.

9 months agoWhat a beautiful trail!! If any trail we've ever hiked in Arizona screams Arizona diversity, this is it! Trail is very well kept and easy to navigate. The variety of landscape here is impressive! You go from high desert to the low washes with grass and mature trees. At this time of year the vegetation was blooming and it was very awesome to see in person! Definitely 10 out of 10 for a easy hiking trail for the family! Easily done with our 3-year-old. $3 parking fee on the honor system. The box was located further down the road at the larger parking lot.

8 months agoThe trail hike is truly pleasant and easy, winding through the unique vegetation of a dry forest. There’s an abundance of bird species for those interested in photography or simply enjoying the morning chorus. Definitely worth trying if you’re in the area.

1 year agoOutstanding, quiet, extra parking further up. Well maintained trail. Good family outing, easy exploration. The creek below was colorful with yellow, gold leaves changing colors and the wind rustling through sounding like water trickling. Discovered a cave like do not enter abandoned old mine opening. The creek was dry with a small puddle under a narrow walking plank like bridge. Enjoy the fields of old saguaro cacti interspersed with cholla ( jumping) cacti. The hills/mountain makes a nice backdrop. We went on Dragonfly trail. Water, hat, sunscreen is your friend. We didn't need hiking sticks, just good shoes. Some rugged fun moments ✨️ 💕 💖

10 months agoWhile visiting Phoenix, we decided to explore Jewel of the Creek Preserve for a short hike—and it was exactly what we were looking for. As outsiders, we were truly amazed by the saguaro cacti. Seeing them up close, towering over the landscape, was a unique experience in itself. The trail doesn’t have a lot of variety in terms of terrain or major landmarks, but it offers what we came for—a peaceful walk surrounded by different kinds of desert cacti. It’s a simple, quiet trail that gives you a genuine feel for the Sonoran Desert. If you’re looking for a short, cactus-filled nature walk just outside the city, this is a great stop.
