1 month agowe loved Lost Dutchman State Park! I wish we would have had more time there. We just landed at Mesa and this was our first stop after grabbing some food so we could watch the sunset there. Staff was friendly and helpful, we stuck to the easy flat trails and explored. Loved getting to see so many different birds there and snapping pictures with my camera. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back some day!

4 months agoTen bucks to park and worth every penny. You get clean trails, friendly staff, and some of the best hiking views in Arizona. I hit Flatiron while I was there, and it was absolutely phenomenal. The climb hits hard but rewards you with views that make you forget how much your legs are complaining. The park is spotless, the trails are clearly marked, and even the bathrooms were clean which is rare enough to deserve a shout-out. Bring water, snacks, and a camera because every turn looks like it should be a postcard. If you live in Arizona or you’re just passing through, go here. Hike, explore, get dusty, and enjoy one of the best slices of the desert you’ll ever see.

2 months agoFinally tackled Flatiron. A challenging trail, but very doable for a regular hiker with good knees. You will be climbing some areas. Beautiful state park with many well maintained trails to choose from. Note: Entrance fee is now $10 per vehicle for one person or $20 for one vehicle with up to 4 people.

4 months agoAvoid the high-numbered camping sites! The scenery is amazing, and there's enough space for large RVs, but if you reserve a site in the high-number loop, you will be far away from the bathrooms (about half a mile - on a dirt trail!) And won't have WiFi reception... So it's 5 stars if you are near the bathroom and the WiFi, 3 if you are not. Oh, yeah - make sure you take a site with power connection, especially in the hot season - an AC is a must during the day, but generator hours are really limited.

3 months agoCamping prices went up to $50/spot, which, without sewer, is steep in my opinion. We stayed in the 75-104 loop and I don't recommend it for big rigs - it is tight. There are also no restrooms on this loop. We appreciated the trails, restrooms were clean but a bit run down. Note that there is very little shade in the campground or on the trails so be prepared with water, sunscreen, and hats.
