Monte Sano Nature Preserve (Cleermont Trailhead) is a premier hiking area located in Huntsville, AL, celebrated for its scenic, shaded paths that wind through rich natural surroundings. This preserve provides a variety of trails to suit different preferences, from the easy Wildflower Trail to more rugged options like the Water Line and Alm House trails. Hikers enjoy the peaceful ambiance and the opportunity to explore flowing creeks and unique rock formations along the way. The entrance, though small and nestled in a neighborhood, welcomes visitors with detailed maps and benches for rest. Dog-friendly and perfect for nature lovers, these trails showcase the best of Huntsville’s outdoor offerings while inviting exploration of connected extensive pathways throughout the preserve.

3 months agoThe parking lot at this entrance is small and located in a neighborhood, but it is still an excellent entrance for a walk. There is a map with information at the start of the trail. It's a beautiful well-shaded path with lots of nature. Even though there are benches, we found the boulders throughout to be more comfortable. This path is dog-friendly, but not ideal for wheelchairs or people with mobility issues due to the uneven terrain.

3 months agoWildflower Trail is a very easy walk with great scenery. Wagon Trail is a little more challenging but not bad. Water Line Trail is challenging because of all of the rocks. Alm House Trail is a little steeper but still not bad.

6 years agoWildflower Trail and Fagan Springs are perhaps my favorite trails in Huntsville. The flowing creek which originates from Fagan's Spring accompanies you the entire trek with beautiful deep pools and sheer rock bottom shallows. There are large 5ft + drops in the creek bed if you explore far enough up the stream beyond the point where Fagan's Spring connects with the main creek. Though dry every time I've seen these falls, they are excellent to climb and view. And of course you can connect to other extensive trails connected to these via the Monte Sano system. These trails are a must-see.

4 years agoGreat set of trails on Monte Sano, love the wildflower trail beside the creek. Not a huge parking area but there are about a half dozen spots, maybe 10, at the end of a residential street.
