The Moss Rock Preserve High Falls in Hoover is a hidden gem offering a serene hiking experience reminiscent of the Smoky Mountains. The preserve features multiple trails with varying elevations, culminating in the spectacular High Falls waterfall, especially impressive after rainfall. This natural enclave invites nature lovers to enjoy lush surroundings and the soothing sound of cascading water despite its proximity to Chapel Road.
Visitors can reach the preserve by parking near the gate or opting for a moderate hike from Simmons Middle School. With nearly two decades of admiration from frequent visitors, this spot remains a favored destination for hikers craving scenic beauty and peaceful respite. The combination of well-maintained paths, waterfalls, and natural elevation changes makes it a must-visit for those exploring outdoor adventures in Hoover.

9 months agoMoss Rock Preserve was a very nice hike for our family & the weather was absolutely perfect for a day out! There are 3 different trails to take that are all moderately easy for any age. We saw several families with dogs also. There are a lot of large tree roots to maneuver over as well as the large boulders & rocks near the creek & falls that can be slippery, so wear good, gripped shoes. We had a lot of fun here & captured some pretty photos. While my husband & sons enjoyed exploring/climbing the boulders, the waterfall was my absolute favorite part!

2 years agoAmazing hidden enclave in the heart of Hoover. If it weren’t for the traffic noise from Chapel Road, this spot feels like it could be in the heart of the Smoky Mountains. Parking is across Chapel Road near the gate (100 yard steep hike) or about 3/4-mile moderate hike from the Simmons Middle School lot. I’ve been coming here for almost 20 years and never get tired of this spot!

5 years agoHiking up the orange trail you will find this spectacular (depends on rainfall) waterfall. I can sit, stare at the waterfall and pretend to be somewhere in the Sipsey.
