5 months agoA hidden little gym here in Gillette Wyoming! We've been here for a week 4 the last 5 years for the NADAC Championships. My wife competes, and I go hike... win-win! However it's been tough to find hikes local to Gillette, and I can only spend a couple of days driving out to the big far away stuff like devil's Tower and the Black hills. I've looked before, but don't often see very many trails around the Gillette area. This was a great find and a nice little hike. My little retired champion Leia come hiking with me, but I can't take her on a 10 mi hike these days so this mile up in mile back was perfect, with a really nice payoff at the top of that little Mesa. There's a another trailhead closer to the payoff loop as well. Oh and last thing, if the first path you find to get to the viewpoint is really steep go around it and they'll be a much less steep path on the back side. Hope you enjoy!

a year agoWhile there is evidence that this area is frequented by other walkers, runners and MTB enthusiasts I've never seen more than a couple during my visits here. It's easily possible to go and see no one else. If you're of a type that prefers to walk alone on the prairie this is the place. There are plenty of trails with varying distances to choose from. The outer loops are just over 6 miles long. For me having this area open for outdoors type folk is a treasure.

a year agoWhy did I wait so long to walk this place? It's a gem! The trails are nicely-maintained; although, I did notice some defacement of natural features along the way. Sigh. Perhaps, that happened prior to the trail development of this area. The vistas from the high spots are immense. The trail system is adequately marked; impossible to get lost. Enjoy!
