We hiked this trailhead late August. I was hesitant at first since the weather was cold and windy. There was also chance of rain. We lucked out that it didn’t rain. It was super windy at the top and glad that I had my walking stick to help me with my balance. It was worth it since the view was spectacular. It was worth the 4.2 miles, 1,463 ft elevation gain windy hike when we saw the full peak of Denali which was a rare sighting. Approximately 30% of visitors to Denali National Park see the full peak of Denali, according to Embrace the Journey Travel. This is primarily due to the frequent cloud cover that obscures the mountain, with Denali being shrouded in clouds about 70% of the time. The views along the way were stunning.

The Savage Alpine Trail in Denali National Park is a fun moderate hike with plenty of alpine squirrels along the way. We hiked it clockwise on a perfect sunny day and enjoyed beautiful mountain views. Hardly any crowds, and parking was no problem at all. It’s about 7,5 miles if you do it as a loop.

Awesome trail. Recommend starting at the campground side if possible less elevation gain that way.

It's a point to point ~4 mile hike with about 1500 feet elevation gain.. I would consider it's moderate to hard.. trails are very well maintained.. it connects the savage river area with a savage campground..I started it from a mountain visa stop. There is limited parking available to trail head ..taking the savage river shuttle is preferred (to avoid the wait time for parking).. if you have time you can also do savage river loop hike/walk as well ...it's worth doing Savage Alpine hike, views won't disappoint you.. one of the must do..
