Some if the trails are not named the same as they are in the map. We had to backtrack a couple times. Also the trail markings are few and not on both sides in some places.

This trail is only .2 miles long, but park at Monte Sano South entrance and head out on Arrowhead Trail or Natural Well trail. They connect to make a 2 mile loop back to the south trailhead. These are definitely the less traveled and more narrow trails, but they are well marked. Although not very strenuous (I'd put the difficulty at an easy 3 out of 10), it was more of a footing issue with rocky paths, tree roots, and downed trees along the way. Do not attempt if it's raining or has been recently. Overall a beautiful hike of about an hour if you just do the loop.

This is a pleasant option when not wanting to head up to the park and pay an entrance fee. It is about 5-10 minutes closer to town, on the right, along the main road (Monte Sano BLVD SE), and not far from Governors Drive (just after Burritt on the Mountain). It has signs and maps about the area posted at the parking lot. It is very accessible, many birds, flowers, shady trails. Do not go too soon after a rain, as the trails need time to "recover".

A trail to historic Trough Spring where Confederate Lt. Colonel Bushwhacker Johnston surrendered to Union Army Colonel Given.

    Short trail. Love it though.
