The Laundromat

Open 24/7 and holidays. OK Clean. NO HOT water. Wasted $50 then had to take them again to the other laundromat that has HOT water for less money. Most machines were in good condition. One took $.75, but never registered it. No giant load cost-saving machines. No machines that use a card. No paper towels in the bathroom. First, last, and only time I'll ever go here.

The Laundromat just outside of Ruidoso Downs is as practical as it is cinematic. It’s clean, quiet, and feels like the backdrop of an unseen indie film—industrial stainless steel machines humming under soft track lighting, country music meandering from the lone TV overhead. A load in the commercial triple load washers will run you $5.50, and drying costs 50 cents for every 10 minutes. There’s plenty of folding space and even a tidy public restroom—though curiously, there’s nothing to dry your hands with, despite the ever-present pink soap dispenser on the wall. It’s a solemn kind of place: functional, unfussy, and somehow reflective, as laundromats often are. Not a destination, but if you find yourself on the road and in need of clean clothes and a quiet half hour, it does the job—with a touch of cinematic melancholy.
