The Diamond Head Crater Trailhead in Honolulu is one of Hawaii’s most famous hiking areas, drawing thousands each year to its scenic summit. Rated 4.7 stars by nearly 8,000 hikers, this trail offers a moderately challenging climb that rewards visitors with panoramic views of Waikiki and the Pacific Ocean. Its well-marked path and historical significance make it a favorite for both locals and tourists. For those seeking a blend of natural beauty and adventure in Honolulu, Diamond Head is an essential destination.
The 360° view at the top was beautiful! As someone who isn’t a hiker, it was worth it but I wouldn’t do it again. I’d prefer a less crowded option. The tunnel: The lights near your feet are super dim; you can see shadows of people in front of and behind you but can’t see faces. It took about 40-50 seconds to walk through at normal pace. The trail: Uneven, not paved. There is a handrail for most of it. There are steps, no matter which way you go. Difficulty: Moderate. When you come out of the tunnel, you can go right towards the stairs (which I think makes it difficult) or left towards the loop (still has stairs but not as intense). I chose left. Rest spots: There are several places along the way to sit and rest. No bathrooms or water stations, so bring your own. Crowd: There were SO many people on the trail going up and down at the same time. Several sections of the trail people would have to wait for others going the opposite way to pass. At the top where you get the 360° view, a line forms as the top platform is smaller (and some people from the tour buses were quite rude). Time: I’m not a hiker; I walk about a mile a few times a week is a hilly area but I made several rest stops since the sun was out with little shade. It took about an hour to go up. Only about 30 minutes to come down.

It wasn't an actual trail, just an overlook to see views but it was wonderful. Definitely worth it.
