a week agoSo amazing 🤩✨️🏕 Didn't expect to find a place that would be so Western feeling in IA! Beautiful hikes through wooded valleys and along high open prairie ridges. Awesome dispersed camping and a beautiful overall experience.

5 months agoI hiked many of the trails on a cloudy day in early November. I was surprised at how hilly it is and how empty the park was. I think I encountered 6 or fewer people while I was there. It was a perfect place to find peace. I got a chance to learn about the schismatic LDS group that lived in Preparation, led by Charles Thompson. My sole complaint is that some of the trails are not marked. Several cross one another, and could lead to hiking longer than planned if you aren't mindful of your turns. Words to the wise: fallen leaves on loess make for poor footing.

5 months agoWe had a great time walking. If you go here make sure you have good bearings of where you are and have been. Very steep hills, it's quite the work out. I seen other people who had a map which would have been very helpful, easy to get turned around. They have arrows on post, but they don't tell you which way you are going.
