Explore Stunning Desert Vistas at Boulder Canyon Trailhead

Boulder Canyon Trailhead in Apache Junction is a captivating hiking area renowned for its breathtaking 360-degree views and well-maintained trails. Adventurers appreciate the scenic drive to the marina where ten free parking spots are reserved, with additional parking available along nearby sideroads. The trail offers a moderate challenge with gradual elevation changes and a mix of loose rocks, ideal for those seeking an invigorating yet manageable outdoor experience.

Hikers often recommend stopping at the overlook halfway through the 5-mile out-and-back hike to soak in the spectacular desert landscape. The path is sun-exposed with no shaded areas, so bringing plenty of water and proper hiking boots is essential, especially on warmer days. Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or a group of seniors, Boulder Canyon Trailhead rewards visitors with stunning scenery that photos rarely capture fully.

Very scenic but better bring your inner mountain goat. Extremely rocky and steep at times. No shady spots either! Bring lots of water and your rock shoes!

Beautiful drive to the marina, which contains 10 spots reserved for hiking the trailhead. You can also park on the sideroads and grey marked parking spots. Scenic 360⁰ views as words, pictures, and videos do no justice. We hiked halfway to the overlook, which is where I recommend you stop and take it all in.. The hike to the endpoint of the wash is rather underwhelming. We hiked on a cloudless day, which led to further exposure to the sun. There are no shaded areas. The trail is well kept and contains a minimal amount of loose rocks. The trail is an out and back up/down/up/down.

This hike is as good as the reviews say. There was plenty of loose rock, stones to walk over and plenty of small ups and downs. The elevation change is gradual. I think moderate is a good rating for this hike. The views are very good. Probably some of the best near Phoenix. There are 10 free spots across the road at the marina, no national forest fees. A bit further west is lots of Tonto National Forest parking of you buy a pass. I can't imagine why someone would give any less than 5 stars.

Now this is a hike worth taking! It’s 5 miles to the viewpoint and back but you will be duly rewarded when you reach the end. The scenery along the way is breathtaking. We spent about 3 hours with plenty of stops. Four 60+ seniors. You can park at the marina. Hiking boots recommended and plenty of water if you are going on a hot day!

Hiked here on 10/28/23. Left parking area over at marina about 8:00. Real nice hike. Not too crowded. It's rocky with mostly ups and downs so if you have sore knees or hips poles might be helpful. We saw a group of 5 folks going up on horses on our way down. Watching these horses and riders navigate up the rocky hills was pretty neat.
