6 months ago5 stars all the way. I hit this one early in the morning and it was exactly what I needed. Few people on the trail, but the parking lot was already halfway filled with sunrise crowd aiming for the lake. You can feel that energy without the chaos if you show up early enough. The hike itself is easy and peaceful, gaining about 600 feet over nearly six miles round trip. Early on there is a section where it literally feels like you got teleported to another state or even another country. Green foliage, cooler air, everything looks wildly different from the desert scene you expect in Arizona. It was bizarre and beautiful. Around the lake the views are killer. Saguaro Lake shimmering under sunrise light is something else. Then you drop into some classic Sonoran Desert vistas that remind you why you live here in the first place. Every turn is photo-worthy, and yes, I took way more snaps than I can rationalize. Trail is maintained, easy to follow, and connects to other paths if you’re feeling ambitious. Weekday parking is a breeze. On weekends it fills up fast, but you can park across the road at Piestewa and walk in. Totally worth it. Whether you’re hiking or running, it delivers. Just remember to get there early because once the lake crowds show up, it’s picture chaos. Definitely recommend giving it a go if you want desert and lake views without chasing crowds.

The trail is well-marked and beginner-friendly, making it perfect for a relaxed walk or a casual hike without a big climb. There are plenty of spots to stop, take photos, or just enjoy the scenery. It’s a peaceful place to get outside, and being so close to the water makes it feel different from most desert hikes. Definitely worth a visit!!

11 months agoModerate trail with great views! Lots of traffic on the weekends but the weekdays are so nice super calm and beautiful! Theres spots along the trail that lead down to the water. Dog friendly. PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR PETS! Restrooms by parking lot. Take all trash out with you.

1 year agoBeautiful hike along the lake and back to Burro Cove. Trail is narrow, so prepare to stop or move off to side frequently. We saw almost no one on the way back (started around 7:45am), but lots coming on the trail on our way back. Many great sights of the lake throughout! Lots of cacti close along the trail too, so just have kiddos be mindful.

12 months agoGorgeous trail with the most beautiful scenery. Definitely want to get there early as it gets pretty busy as the day pushes on. Plenty of parking, plenty of bathrooms at the trailhead. Pay at the first meter that you see pulling into the parking lot. I did want to mention about the ridiculous amount of trash I saw throughout the first half of the trail & parking lot. Beer cans, cigarette buds and a bunch of left dog pooh bags. Really took away some of the beauty to see how some people don't care about nature or others around them.
