a month agoFebruary 2, 2026 | Keel Mountain Preserve Abby and I arrived at the trailhead around 8:30 AM. It was a crisp 32°F, though the forecast promises a beautiful climb into the high 50s. We set out on a 3-mile clockwise loop: TH > Keel Mountain Preserve Trail > Lost Sink Falls > Unmaintained Bootpath > Buck Ditch > TH. While the main trail was in great shape (aside from some leaf-covered patches), the "unmaintained" section lived up to its name. The half-mile stretch along the Buck Ditch slope was grueling; it took us nearly an hour to navigate the downed debris and loose terrain. I spent a fair amount of time on all fours or butt-sliding to ensure Abby stayed safe on the steep grade. The struggle was worth it, though—the solitude and the view of Lost Sink Falls were the absolute highlights of the day.

2 months agoA great 1.25 moderate hike. We went in Christmas Eve and it was 70 degrees. We took us a lunch and plenty of water. Enjoy in a nice day. Be careful in fall/winter with all the leaves and if wet.
