in the last weekTotally worth the drive over on my trip to Huntsville AL. It’s an easy 90 min drive. Entry fee is free. I did a couple hikes on trails and drove the scenic road and stopped along many of the overlooks. First, I love that there is a NPS here. I got my passport stamp and they even had the commemorative 250 year stamp. The river was beautiful to see. I hiked down to the little falls. It’s 1.5 miles approx round trip from the parking lot/boardwalk. The trail was marked with a red rectangle along all the trees to keep you on path. This was really nice to have to follow. The water would have felt nice to get in but it was drizzling rain and I didn’t have a change of clothes. Even with the rain, it wasn’t bad to hike. There’s a lot of tree cover so I barely got wet. The path was at but not muddy. My shoes stayed pretty clean, but it did make it a little slippery on the rocks. The rock scramble at the end of the path to get to the falls and water was manageable if you can step down and climb. The path is not wheel chair accessible. Now the scenic drive. I felt was hard to follow at times because there are a few roads that lead off along curves that you think you should follow but you’re not supposed to. My best recommendation, follow the road with the center line that is most faded and stay to your left all the time to follow the canyon. Might be common sense for most, but I struggled and got lost 3 times before using to turn around. Steep sloping declines and inclines were fun to navigate. Be sure you are confident in your driving abilities. I didn’t stay to hike from some of the lookouts due to the rain, but I’m sure you’d have beautiful views if you decide to. I didn’t have hiking poles.
