Oak Park Trail is a beloved hiking area in Huntsville known for its shaded, enjoyable paths and diverse terrain. Hikers often explore multiple trails, including the Buzzard’s Roost and Dallas trails, making for a challenging yet rewarding adventure. The route offers unique features like labeled trees and historical signs, enhancing the hiking experience with educational insights.
The trail is popular with dog owners and outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate the community garden and occasional hidden waterfalls. Be mindful of seasonal wildlife, as snakes may be present in the summer. This trail combines natural beauty, educational elements, and community charm for an engaging outdoor outing.

5 years agoVery enjoyable trail, shady all the way, a few areas that were just a little challenging. The route we took was Oak Park trail then turn on the second buzzard's roost trail then turn onto Dallas trail, follow that to Bankhead, then back to Oak Park. Always take a picture of the map at the beginning of the trail and study it. This place is one of my favorite trails.

7 months agoThis trail has been ruined by cyclists. I used to see people going to or leaving the trail and then Covid happened and cyclists who were bored moved on the oak park trail. It’s never been the same since. I noticed on a run recently that there is now a lock on the gate that leads from the park to the trail and the information placard, the one that was at the opening of the trail isn’t there anymore. Not sure what this means. I blame cyclists who don’t live in the area, I do, oak park is at the base of my street, I blame the cyclists and the Land trust of Alabama. They were complicit in the changes to the trail to make it cyclists friendly, i.e., give cyclists right of way on portions of what was exclusively a hiker trail for years. Yeah, they ruined it…for a bunch of entitled jerks who don’t even live in the area. I run a lot and have yet to see a single cyclist obey stop signs here, I’m not a fan of ANY OF THEM.

1 year agoThis trail was in my back yard off of Polk Circle. If you hike and come to the first fork and go left and keep walking there is a hidden waterfall. I use to take my kids to play in the water. Beware of snakes in the summer!

3 years agoSo beautiful! I love the community garden at the park. The trails were so fun! My dog and I loved it! There were bike trails too. I love that they label the trees with information on them. I love seeing the signs with stories about bridges and such. It was a really fun, beautiful trail.
