2 years agoHidden gem of Huntsville! Don't be afraid of the church! Drive past it and discover nature! Us Dawgs come up here 5 days a week to see how the creek is doing and enjoy this gorgeous landscape. Beautifully marked trails make it clear! There's a great easy jones valley loop in addition to more ambitious hikes if you don't have many dogs with you. We saw a HUGE black racer on the trail that slithered past after we hiked! Remember those snek friends want nothing to do with you if you don't want nothing to do with them. Gorgeous trail, wonderful maintenance/bridges, and alabama ain't so bad. Thanks land trust for all you do to keep us sane here 😊

5 years agoFanning Trail - decent challenge of a trail at times - moderate at best - well marked and ample parking. Good options for easier trail loop via Jones Valley Loop & Stevenson Trail.

2 years agoThe Land Trust creates a huge contribution to Madison County. Their original goal was to purchase land so the mountain backdrop of Huntsville wasn't completely developed. Their preservation has created hundreds of acres of hiking trails and access to unique waterfall, rock overlooks and clean flowing streams. A big thanks to the Land Trust. Make a donation today!

6 years agoJust an FYI the parking lot is behind a church. When we first arrived at the destination, we were confused and thought Google had taken us to the wrong place, but it is indeed a hiking trailhead. Just drive behind the church and you will see a sign with the trail mappings. Beautiful little hiking spot with a nice little stream. Not too busy but the trails are a bit messy/chaotic and it is hard to make sure you are still on the path. For that reason I did remove a star. Overall still a very nice area though. The waterfall was very small when i visited, despite it being spring so do keep in mind that it is highly seasonal.
