Riverfront Bakery

Stopped at Riverfront Bakery today Sunday, after watching a movie at the Penn Cinema around 4pm. We traveled from Pennsylvania to Delaware for the day. We stood at the counter for quite a while without being greeted or acknowledged, despite there being no line when we entered, or when we left. We ultimately decided to leave without ordering. As a Puerto Rican woman with brown skin, experiences like these are unfortunate and not unfamiliar. Call it what you want, but the vibe was off. Whether intentional or not, these kinds of experiences should not be minimized or normalized. Sometimes we brush these things off and keep it moving, but truth is businesses that open their doors to the public should make an effort to acknowledge and treat all customers with basic respect, like a simple “hey” or “I’ll be right with you”. We stood inside there for more than 5minutes patiently waiting. It was weird. At the end of the day, it’s always a good thing to spend money in spaces where people genuinely feel welcomed and valued, I rather support businesses where basic customer service comes naturally to everyone.. so for sure this was not a loss for us. I’ll gladly spend and tip else where.

This place is great. A perfect spot for a yummy breakfast. The ham and cheese on the croissant was delicious. The service was so nice too. Highly recommend!
