in the last weekThis is easily one of the most rewarding hikes in the region. It is 7.75 mi roundtrip, but not a "walk in the park" so to speak. On several occasions I have encountered distressed hikers on the return leg who underestimated the effort required and failed to carry sufficient liquids. - This is a strenuous hike. Reserve 6 hours. - Plan on carrying at least 2L of liquids per adult, preferably with electrolytes. - Get an early start (e.g. by 9am). - The best time to take this hike is not during the hottest days of summer. - Technical sections of the hike become slippery following rainy weather. - Pay close attention to the blazes, particularly on the return.
