2 months agoA decent hiking area with views of the surrounding area on clear days. On a scale of 1 to 10 for lifelong hikers, I'd rate the Puplit-Pinnacle loop a 5 in terms of difficulty. Decent elevation, over 1,000 feet throughout the loop, along a 7-8 mile stretch. Parking can be tough on nice spring/fall weekends and neither spot has great amenities, or any really. So pack plenty of water, sunscreen, food/snacks, and make sure you were REAL hiking gear, i.e. not north face wanna be crap. There are occasionally both rattlesnakes and copperheads in the area, so when doing any rock scrambling, make sure you always check your next hand/foot hold before throwing a body part out. Peak time to see them would be early-mid morning or late afternoon as they sun themselves. Done the loop with 16 friends in about 3 and half hours, even with a few short breaks, so it's fairly easy if you're in relatively average shape (cardio wise).
