Longs Peak Trailhead, located in Estes Park, is a premier hiking area that offers a blend of challenging terrain and stunning alpine scenery. This trail is known for its long and strenuous path that tests endurance while rewarding hikers with some of the most magnificent mountain views in the region. While the trail includes rocky sections and steep climbs, parts of it resemble a natural walkway, making it accessible with proper preparation.
Many outdoor enthusiasts use this trailhead as a starting point to reach iconic destinations like Chasm Lake or attempt summiting Longs Peak itself. It’s essential to be prepared for variable weather conditions and to have reliable navigation tools, especially during winter months. For those seeking a memorable hiking adventure in Estes Park, Longs Peak Trailhead stands out as a must-visit location that combines natural beauty with physical challenge.

2 months agoThis is a popular hike with a pretty small lot. In the summer months, summit-goers start to arrive as early as 3am. There is no overnight parking or dispersed camping permitted near the trailhead. Depending on what day of the week you go, the lot and approach road may be full by 6-6:30am. It's also part of the RMNP system so timed entry and day use fees may apply. Don't let my review of the trailhead keep you from doing the hike. Whether you bag the summit or check out Chasm Lake, it's one of the most scenic and rewarding hikes in all of Colorado! Yeehaw!

4 months agoTruly an accomplishment to make it to the top. One of the hardest physical activities I have ever done. Not for the faint at heart or the inexperienced. Please please be aware that this is a dangerous ascent to the top. Leave early, pack adequately, be in shape and acclimated to high elevation beforehand and attempt only in July and first two weeks of August. It's ok to turn around. Use caution and congratulations if you make it.

4 months agoReal windy at the top, but no cars present at 3am. Granted, it was November but warm and clear! Free parking since it wasn’t peak season and trail is well kept. Also one of the only hikes that has 3 separate bathroom locations at the main destination (chasm, longs peak, and one at the junction).
